An authentic set of four (4) antique Japanese Kōgai (笄) crafted during the late Edo to early Meiji period. Kōgai were traditional multifunctional implements carried alongside the Kozuka (small utility knife) in the pocket of a samurai's sword scabbard (Saya), primarily used for hair maintenance and arranging the topknot (Chonmage).

Each piece in this collection features intricate low-and-high relief carvings (Takabori) set against a textured ground, depicting classic Japanese motifs:

  • Dragon (龍 - Ryū): Mythological protector crawling along the handle.

  • Plum & Floral Branches (梅 - Ume): Elegant winter/spring botanical detailing.

  • Birds & Nature (鳥 - Tori): Traditional wildlife motifs.

Forged from a copper-based alloy (likely Yamagane / unrefined copper alloy) with a rich, dark aged patina and natural oxidation that highlights its historical authenticity.
